In the northeastern United States and southeastern Canada, a new winter storm is sweeping through, generating significant snowfall across the northernmost states. Snowfall accumulations of up to 60-80 cm are anticipated around the Great Lakes, with temperatures potentially dipping into the −20sC (−4F) in North Dakota and Minnesota.
A narrow band of heavy rain and thunderstorms has developed across a line stretching from the far north of mainland US to the Gulf of Mexico, contributing to a temperature drop of 10-25 degrees Celsius across the eastern two-thirds of North America.
In Australia, a low-pressure system is expected to bring up to 150 mm of rain within a 48-hour window, following a period of very high rainfall in recent weeks.
