Apple has launched the new MacBook Neo, its first dedicated budget laptop, starting at $599. The device is now available for preorder.
New MacBook Neo Available for Preorder
“The new MacBook Neo is now available for preorder at the Apple Store, Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and Walmart,” Apple announced during the product launch event. This marks a significant step for the tech giant, as the MacBook Neo is technically Apple’s first dedicated budget laptop.
Starting at $599, the MacBook Neo aims to attract a wider audience, particularly students and budget-conscious consumers. Education buyers can benefit from a $100 discount when ordering directly through the Apple Store, making it an appealing option for schools and students alike.
The MacBook Neo is set to begin shipping on March 11, 2026, and features the powerful A18 Pro chip, which promises enhanced performance and efficiency. It is equipped with a 13-inch Liquid Retina display that boasts a resolution of 2408×1506 pixels and a brightness of 500 nits.
In terms of design, the MacBook Neo features an all-aluminum body and is available in four colors: silver, indigo, blush, and citrus. The baseline model includes 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, catering to the needs of everyday users.
Connectivity options include two USB-C ports, WiFi 6E, and Bluetooth 6, ensuring that users can stay connected and productive. However, it is worth noting that the keyboard does not have backlighting, which may be a drawback for some users.
The MacBook Neo informally succeeds the M1 MacBook Air, which Apple sold through Walmart for around $699 from March 2024 to early this year. With the introduction of the MacBook Neo, Apple aims to solidify its presence in the budget laptop market.
As the launch date approaches, consumers are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to experience the new MacBook Neo firsthand. Follow-up statements from Apple are expected as the shipping date nears, providing further insights into the product’s reception and performance.
