Mithali Raj has proclaimed that Indian cricket has entered an era of dominance following significant victories in recent ICC tournaments.
Mithali Raj recently stated that Indian cricket’s era of dominance has arrived, marking a significant moment for the sport. This declaration comes in the wake of India’s men’s team winning the T20 World Cup in 2024, which ended a long ICC title drought, and the women’s team lifting the ODI World Cup, securing their maiden ICC title.
In a remarkable achievement, India successfully defended the T20 World Cup title in 2026, becoming the first team to accomplish this feat. Raj highlighted that both the Under-19 men’s and women’s teams have also lifted world titles in recent years, showcasing the depth of talent in Indian cricket.
Raj, who is the highest run scorer in women’s ODIs with an impressive 7,805 runs, has been a pivotal figure in the growth of women’s cricket in India. She led the Indian women’s team to two ICC Women’s World Cup finals, solidifying her legacy in the sport.
Reflecting on the recent successes, Mithali Raj expressed her pride, stating, “For the longest time, I wanted Indian cricket to dominate and the time has come.” She further emphasized the collective effort behind these achievements, saying, “The last 2-3 years, Indian cricket, men or women or the under-19 girls or boys, they’ve been doing immensely well. It’s a proud moment as a former cricketer to see the growth of Indian cricket.”
Raj’s contributions to the sport were recognized when she received the BCCI Lifetime Achievement Award for Women, a testament to her impact on cricket. In her acceptance speech, she acknowledged the support she received throughout her career, stating, “I think there are so many people who played a huge role in my career, just not my parents.”
Rahul Dravid, a prominent figure in Indian cricket, also expressed gratitude for Raj’s recognition, saying, “I am very grateful to receive this award.” This sentiment reflects the broader appreciation for the strides made in Indian cricket, both for men and women.
