The screening of ‘Jana Nayagan’ by the CBFC has been postponed due to a committee member’s illness, further delaying its release.

Postponement of Jana Nayagan Screening

The screening for the film Jana Nayagan by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) was scheduled for March 9, 2026, at 2 pm. However, the review process has been postponed due to a committee member falling ill.

KVN Productions, the production company behind the film, received official notification about the rescheduled screening on March 8, 2026. This delay comes after the film has faced several hurdles since its initial planned release on January 9, 2026.

A member of the original committee had previously filed a formal complaint regarding the film’s depiction of religious sentiments and armed forces logos. In response, the CBFC chairman directed the film to a revising committee for further scrutiny.

The filmmakers submitted a letter to the Madras High Court registry seeking to withdraw their legal case against the CBFC, indicating a desire to resolve the issues surrounding the film’s certification.

Speculation suggests that Jana Nayagan may be scheduled for re-release in June 2026, although no official confirmation regarding the re-release date has been provided by the makers. Details remain unconfirmed.

The ongoing review process has resulted in the film remaining unreleased for several months, drawing attention within the industry and among fans. This delay follows earlier objections regarding religious practices and army symbols.

The film features music by Anirudh Ravichander and cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan, and stars notable actors including Thalapathy Vijay, Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Pooja Hegde, and Narain.

Despite the challenges, the production team remains hopeful for a resolution that will allow the film to reach audiences. The film’s certification review has been delayed for several months, further complicating its release timeline.

Earlier, the film was evaluated by the CBFC committee in December 2025, after which they implemented recommended edits. The current situation reflects the complexities involved in film certification in India.

The production company had earlier filed an appeal with the court in January after the decision to send the film for revising committee review, highlighting the ongoing legal and administrative challenges faced by the filmmakers.
