Jalandhar Weather Update: Thunderstorms and Temperature Drops

Recent weather changes in Jalandhar have led to a drop in temperatures and the issuance of a yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning.

Prior to recent developments, the weather in Jalandhar and surrounding areas was characterized by relatively stable temperatures. However, expectations shifted dramatically as the Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across Punjab and Haryana.

In the past 24 hours, thunderstorms and lightning were reported at isolated locations, marking a decisive change in weather patterns. The average maximum temperature in Punjab fell by 6.2°C, with the highest recorded temperature at 28°C in Abohar. Meanwhile, in Haryana, the average maximum temperature dropped by 3.4°C, peaking at 33.2°C in Mahendragarh.

The immediate effects of this weather shift have been felt across various regions. Several stations in Punjab recorded light rainfall, with Amritsar receiving about 5 mm, Abohar 4 mm, and Firozpur 2.5 mm. The weather department has also predicted light to moderate rainfall at several locations on March 15, 19, and 20, with thunderstorms expected to bring gusty winds of 40–50 kmph.

Agricultural experts have noted that the light to moderate rain could benefit wheat crops by maintaining soil moisture, which is crucial for the upcoming harvest. However, there are concerns among farmers regarding potential damage from strong winds, hailstorms, or heavy rainfall, which could adversely affect their crops.

As the weather continues to evolve, the situation remains dynamic, with farmers and residents closely monitoring updates from the Meteorological Department. The recent weather activity has led to a noticeable dip in temperatures across Punjab and Haryana, altering the landscape of agricultural expectations.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the long-term impacts of these weather changes, but the immediate forecasts suggest a continued focus on monitoring conditions in the coming days.
