Iran Israel War UAE

Iran has intensified its attacks on the UAE amid the ongoing Iran-Israel war, raising concerns over regional security and civilian safety.

Iran launched offensives across the Middle East following the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in US-Israeli strikes. In a significant escalation, Iran has targeted the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with sustained attacks, marking it as a primary focus of its military efforts amid the ongoing conflict.

Since February 28, 2026, the UAE has faced an unprecedented barrage, with over 1,800 missiles and drones fired at its territory, more than any other nation involved in the conflict. The Fujairah oil hub, located 150 km from Dubai, has been particularly affected, suffering repeated strikes from Iranian drones.

On March 17, 2026, the UAE’s Defence Ministry successfully intercepted 10 Iranian ballistic missiles and 45 drones, showcasing the nation’s military preparedness. However, the attacks have resulted in significant damage to civilian infrastructure, including airports, ports, and oil facilities, leading to airspace closures and flight disruptions.

According to reports, Iran justifies its aggressive stance by citing the presence of US military bases in the UAE as a reason for its attacks. This situation has been exacerbated by the UAE’s normalization of relations with Israel in 2020, which Iran perceives as a betrayal.

The ongoing conflict has already resulted in at least six casualties in major cities like Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Human Rights Watch has condemned Iran’s actions, stating, “Iran’s unlawful strikes across the Gulf are endangering civilians.” Victoria Gatenby, a regional analyst, noted, “These attacks from Iran are still causing a huge disruption in this region.”

The Gulf Cooperation Council countries have responded by condemning the Iranian attacks and pledging to defend their territories. Dr. Anwar Gargash, a senior UAE official, indicated that the UAE may join international efforts led by the United States to ensure the safety and security of the Strait of Hormuz.

As the situation develops, observers are closely monitoring the implications of Iran’s military strategy, particularly its focus on the UAE. Nadim Koteich highlighted the alarming statistic that 65% of Iran’s missiles and drones since the onset of this conflict have been aimed at the UAE.

With tensions escalating, the region remains on high alert, and further military engagements could have profound effects on both local and international stability.
