Indane’s LPG refill booking system has crashed due to an overwhelming increase in customer calls, with the volume of calls to the company’s IVRS and missed call booking numbers rising to 8-10 times the usual levels. As a result, customers are experiencing longer wait times for LPG cylinder bookings.
Government Response and Price Hikes
In response to the escalating situation, the government has increased the minimum waiting period for booking a domestic LPG cylinder refill from 21 days to 25 days. This change reflects the ongoing challenges in meeting the heightened demand.
Moreover, the supply of domestic cylinders has been reduced by 50%, while demand has simultaneously increased by 50%. The price of a standard 14.2kg LPG gas cylinder in Delhi has risen to ₹913, marking an increase of ₹60.
Impact of Geopolitical Tensions
Domestic production of LPG has been prioritized; however, imports have faced delays due to geopolitical tensions. Currently, approximately 60% of India’s LPG needs are met through imports, making the situation more precarious.

Customers have expressed frustration with the ongoing issues. One consumer from Madipakkam noted that the IVR system kept repeating its message, indicating the breakdown of the booking process. An employee at an Indane distribution center reported that people were anxious and crowded the office with their empty cylinders in hopes of securing new ones.
