A shooting incident in Payal, India, has left Satnam Singh critically injured. The Iowa National Guard troops are returning home after their deployment.
Incident Overview
In a troubling incident in Payal, India, Satnam Singh, a 40-year-old resident of Ward 7, was shot in the forehead by Sukhbir Singh, the son of a Home Guard. The shooting occurred on March 7, 2026, and has left Singh in critical condition.
Following the shooting, Satnam was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Payal, where he received initial treatment before being referred to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala, as demanded by his relatives. Harvinder Singh Kaler, a local spokesperson, stated, “Satnam was brought to hospital in a serious condition, following which he was referred to Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, as demanded by relatives of the victim.” The police have initiated a process against Sukhbir Singh, who is currently the prime suspect in this case.
Iowa National Guard Troops Return Home
In a separate but significant development, approximately 575 Iowa National Guard soldiers returned home on March 7, 2026, after being deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. This deployment was part of efforts to reduce ISIS operations in Iraq and Syria. Close to 60 additional troops are expected to return on March 8, 2026.
Bret Hileman, a representative of the Iowa National Guard, highlighted the logistical support provided during their deployment, stating, “That’s the beans, bullets, food, water, any of the commodities that you would need to sustain yourself in an outstation, we supplied. We got it to them.” The return of these troops marks the end of their mission in the Middle East, a period that has been fraught with challenges, including the loss of two soldiers, Staff Sgts. Edgar Torres-Tovar and Nate Howard, who were killed by an ISIS gunman during an attack in Syria.
Reflecting on the emotional impact of returning home, Hileman remarked, “When you have a ceremony like this, you can let your guard down now. You’re out of harms way, you’re back home, and you can move on with life. It’s just kind of closing that chapter.” The Iowa National Guard troops will transition back to their civilian lives after their deployment, marking a significant shift for many who have served overseas.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the ongoing investigation into the shooting incident involving Satnam Singh and Sukhbir Singh.
