India’s men’s and women’s badminton teams are gearing up for the 2026 Thomas and Uber Cup in Denmark, following their recent successes.
India’s badminton teams are preparing for the upcoming 2026 Thomas and Uber Cup, which will take place from April 24 to May 3 in Horsens, Denmark. The men’s team qualified for the tournament through their position in the BWF men’s team rankings following the Badminton Asia Team Championships. This marks a significant moment for the Indian teams, especially after the men’s team clinched the Thomas Cup title in 2022.
Both Indian teams are seeded eighth in the tournament based on world rankings. The men’s team will compete in Group A alongside formidable opponents China, Canada, and Australia, while the women’s team faces China, Denmark, and Ukraine in the same group.
In the tournament format, a total of 16 teams will compete in a round-robin structure, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the quarterfinals. Each tie will consist of five matches, including three singles and two doubles, with a total of three matches played in each tie.
Sanjay Mishra, a representative for the Indian teams, expressed optimism about their chances, stating, “We have got a decent draw and a chance to reach the quarterfinals in both the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup competition.” This sentiment reflects the confidence within the team as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
The Indian women’s team has previously achieved notable success, winning bronze medals in the 2014 and 2016 editions of the Uber Cup. As they enter this tournament, they will aim to build on that legacy and make a strong impact.
As the tournament approaches, observers are keen to see how the Indian teams will perform against their international rivals. The competition is expected to be fierce, with teams from various countries vying for the prestigious titles.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the final preparations and strategies the teams will employ, but the anticipation continues to build as the event date draws nearer.
