NVIDIA has launched Ising, the world’s first open AI models for quantum computing, marking a significant advancement in the field. These models provide quantum processor calibration capabilities that are up to 2.5 times faster and 3 times more accurate than traditional methods.
Leading institutions such as Academia Sinica, Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, and Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences are among the first to adopt Ising. NVIDIA’s Ising includes both Ising Calibration and Ising Decoding models, with the former reducing calibration time from days to mere hours.
Ising Decoding models are optimized for either speed or accuracy, essential for quantum error correction, which is crucial for the reliability of quantum computing systems. Jensen Huang, NVIDIA’s CEO, emphasized the importance of AI in making quantum computing practical, stating, “AI is essential to making quantum computing practical.” He further noted, “With Ising, AI becomes the control plane — the operating system of quantum machines.”
The quantum computing market is projected to surpass $11 billion by 2030, indicating a growing demand for advanced technologies. NVIDIA’s data center revenue has surged by 75% year-over-year, now constituting 88% of its business. This growth is partly fueled by over $1 trillion in orders for its GPUs through 2027.
As Quantum Processor Units (QPUs) become essential for solving complex problems in data centers, NVIDIA Ising aims to integrate AI into quantum systems, making them more accessible and efficient. Dan Herbatschek remarked on the significance of this development, stating, “This is significant because NVIDIA is taking what is a principle from quantum physics and making it actually usable.”
Dr. Tal David highlighted the innovative nature of NVIDIA Ising, saying, “NVIDIA Ising shows the power of hybrid quantum-classical computing, which is at the forefront of the industry.” This hybrid approach may redefine how quantum computing is utilized across various sectors.
