Iva jovic: What makes a rising star in tennis?

Iva Jovic, an 18-year-old American tennis player, is rapidly gaining recognition in the tennis world. Her achievements and mentorship from Novak Djokovic highlight her potential.

“He’s given me some great tips. I can tell that he has watched my matches, which is surreal,” said Iva Jovic, reflecting on her mentorship from tennis legend Novak Djokovic. At just 18 years old, Jovic is already making a name for herself in the competitive world of tennis, currently ranked No. 16 in the PIF WTA Rankings.

Jovic’s journey in tennis has been remarkable. She is a two-time Grand Slam doubles champion at the junior level and won her maiden WTA title in Mexico last year. Her recent performance at the Australian Open, where she reached the quarter-finals without dropping a set, has further solidified her status as a rising star. Notably, she is the youngest American to reach the Australian Open quarter-finals since Venus Williams in 1998.

Born to parents who emigrated to America from Croatia during the early 2000s, Jovic’s background is as inspiring as her achievements. Her parents worked as pharmacists before pursuing a better life in the United States, and their sacrifices have undoubtedly influenced Jovic’s determination to succeed in tennis.

Meeting Djokovic at Wimbledon last year was a pivotal moment for Jovic. She has since established a direct line of communication with him during tournaments, allowing her to gain insights from one of the greatest players in tennis history. Jovic expressed her admiration, stating, “I don’t know how he does it. He’s a husband, he’s a father, he’s the greatest tennis player of all time.”

As she continues to develop her game, Jovic is currently seeded fourth in the Charleston Open. She has played at clay-court events ranked 250 or higher on the WTA Tour three times, showcasing her versatility and readiness to compete at higher levels. Jovic’s ambition is clear as she aims to follow in the footsteps of her mentor.

“It’s unbelievable what he’s done as a player,” Jovic remarked, highlighting her respect for Djokovic’s accomplishments. The 24 Grand Slam titles and 428 weeks spent as the world’s No. 1 player are achievements that inspire many young athletes, including Jovic.

Looking ahead, Jovic hopes to maintain her upward trajectory in the sport. “Hopefully, I can speak with him in the future,” she said, indicating her desire to continue learning from Djokovic as she navigates her career. With her talent and determination, Iva Jovic is certainly a player to watch in the coming years.
