FC Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund Agree to Karim Adeyemi Transfer

FC Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund have agreed to the transfer of German attacker Karim Adeyemi. He is set to sign a five-year contract with Barça.

FC Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund have reportedly reached a total agreement for the transfer of German attacker Karim Adeyemi. The deal for the player, who only wanted to join Barça, is expected to see him sign a five-year contract with the Catalan club.

According to reports, the agreement between the clubs includes a fixed fee along with additional add-ons. One report indicates a fixed fee plus add-ons, contingent on title victories and appearances. Another report suggests the add-ons could be as high as a certain amount, which are considered highly achievable. Additionally, Dortmund has reportedly secured a 35% sell-on clause as part of the agreement.

Adeyemi’s move to Barcelona

The move comes after months of speculation surrounding Adeyemi’s future at Borussia Dortmund. His contract with the German club runs through June 2027, but talks regarding an extension had reportedly stalled, making a summer transfer increasingly likely. Adeyemi had reportedly agreed to personal terms with Barcelona, making it clear that the Spanish champions were his preferred destination during this transfer window.

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick is believed to have been keen on acquiring Adeyemi. Flick previously worked with Adeyemi within the German national team setup and reportedly values his pace, versatility, and pressing ability. Adeyemi’s capacity to play on either wing or through the middle could offer Barcelona a dynamic attacking option alongside players like Lamine Yamal and Raphinha.

This pursuit aligns with Barcelona‘s strategy of recruiting young players with significant potential, while also navigating the financial restrictions imposed by La Liga‘s salary regulations.

Adeyemi’s time at Dortmund

Adeyemi joined Dortmund in 2022 from RB Salzburg, arriving with a reputation as one of Germany’s promising attacking talents. During the 2025-26 campaign under coach Niko Kovac, Adeyemi featured in 28 Bundesliga matches, making 15 starts. He averaged just over 42 minutes per appearance in the league, contributing seven goals and four assists.

In the UEFA Champions League, he added three goals and two assists, concluding the season with approximately 10 goals and six assists across all competitions. Despite these contributions, his role at the club remained inconsistent, with Dortmund reportedly utilizing him more as a rotational option rather than a regular starter.

The uncertainty surrounding his position at Dortmund was mirrored by challenging contract negotiations. Reports indicated that extension talks were nearing collapse due to significant differences between the parties. Adeyemi, now represented by agent Jorge Mendes, was reportedly seeking a substantial salary increase from his estimated annual earnings and an exit clause in any new agreement.

Dortmund had reportedly shown little inclination to meet these demands, particularly given the winger’s inconsistent performances and injury setbacks in previous seasons. There were also reports of growing frustration among club executives as negotiations failed to progress.

Adeyemi, however, publicly addressed some of the speculation in June, stating that media reports regarding negotiations had been exaggerated. He emphasized his commitment to Borussia Dortmund and expressed his appreciation for the club, while also noting that a clear signal from the club would ultimately determine his future.

With only two years remaining on his contract, Dortmund faced increasing pressure to decide whether to transfer him this summer or risk a decline in his market value as his contract approached its final year. The agreement with Barcelona appears to provide that clear direction.
