According to reports, two individuals allegedly hurled a crude bomb or improvised explosive device (IED) before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported as a result of the attack, although shrapnel fragments were recovered and are currently being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
The blast caused splinter damage to the windowpanes of a car and two scooters parked nearby. In response to the incident, police teams cordoned off the area immediately, ensuring the safety of the public and facilitating the investigation.
Senior police officials, including SSP Kanwardip Kaur, visited the site to assess the situation. “We received information at around 5 pm that an explosion-like sound was heard near the Punjab BJP office,” Kaur stated, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
Vineet Joshi, a state BJP leader, expressed his concerns about the incident, stating, “A blast taking place near the party office is a matter of concern.” This incident follows a recent police encounter involving a suspect linked to the killing of two policemen, further intensifying fears surrounding Khalistani terrorism in the region.
In light of the attack, a probe team from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) has been dispatched to collect evidence and assist local authorities in their investigation.
