Cameron Green’s Batting Form Under Scrutiny Ahead of IPL 2026

Cameron Green’s recent batting struggles have drawn attention as he prepares to play for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2026.

What does Cameron Green’s recent batting form mean for his upcoming stint with the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2026? As he prepares to join the franchise after being signed for Rs 25.20 crore, concerns have been raised about his performance on the field.

Greg Chappell, the former Australian cricketer, has voiced his worries regarding Green’s current batting capabilities. He noted that Green scored only 24 runs in three innings during the T20 World Cup, which included two single-digit scores. This performance has led to questions about his readiness for the high-pressure environment of the IPL.

In addition to his struggles in the T20 World Cup, Green’s recent outings against Pakistan were also underwhelming, where he managed to score 93 runs in three innings at an average of 31.00. His overall Test career statistics show that he has accumulated 1,736 runs in 37 Tests at an average of 32.75, but his last Test century was a notable 174* against New Zealand two years ago.

Chappell elaborated on his concerns, stating, “Bowling has impacted his batting. He can still be one of the great all-rounders of the game because he has the talent, but (it depends on) whether he has got the decision making, the mental skills to go with it, whether he’s getting the best advice on where he is going.”

Chappell further emphasized the transformation he has observed in Green, saying, “I saw a very athletic young batsman with a beautiful setup and able to move in any direction, and now I see a batsman who is stuck at the crease, who cannot move, cannot use his athleticism, cannot use his reach to score runs.” This stark contrast highlights the challenges Green faces as he aims to regain his form.

During the home Ashes series against England, Green managed to score 171 runs in eight innings at an average of 24.42, which further underscores his recent struggles. His home Test batting average currently stands at 28.96 after 20 matches.

As Green prepares for the IPL, the cricketing community is left to wonder whether he can overcome these challenges and return to his previous form. The upcoming matches will be crucial for him to demonstrate his capabilities and regain confidence.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding any specific strategies Green may implement to address these concerns, but his performance in the IPL will be closely monitored by fans and analysts alike.
