STMicroelectronics has commenced the delivery of STM32 microcontrollers in China, collaborating with Huahong Semiconductor for local production.
STMicroelectronics has officially begun delivering STM32 microcontrollers in China, marking a significant milestone in the localization of semiconductor manufacturing. The first batch of these microcontrollers has been fully produced locally, showcasing a commitment to enhancing the supply chain within the region.
The localization effort kicks off with the high-performance STM32H7 series, which is part of a broader strategy to establish a fully localized STM32 supply chain in China. This initiative is expected to bolster STMicroelectronics’ presence in the Chinese market, where the demand for microcontrollers is rapidly growing.
Mass production of the STM32 microcontrollers has commenced, utilizing advanced 40nm technology. This development is crucial as the STM32 product portfolio includes a range of features such as high performance, low power consumption, real-time control, digital signal processing (DSP), and connectivity options.
Henry Cao, a representative from STMicroelectronics, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “Bringing STM32 MCUs to mass production in China is a core commitment of ST to its Chinese customers.” This commitment reflects the company’s strategy to cater to the increasing needs of various sectors, including industrial systems, home appliances, industrial automation, motor control, medical devices, and consumer electronics.
Furthermore, STMicroelectronics anticipates that its revenue related to data centers will “far exceed” $1 billion next year, indicating a robust growth trajectory. The company currently collaborates with around 200,000 customers and employs approximately 48,000 creators and makers, underscoring its extensive operational scale.
Historically, the STM32 has held a significant position in the global microcontroller market, recognized as one of the most important 32-bit MCU platforms worldwide. This new local production capability is expected to enhance its competitiveness in the market.
Looking ahead, STMicroelectronics plans to expand its STM32 family with additional mass production slated for 2026. This expansion will likely further solidify the company’s role in the semiconductor industry.
