India Post has announced significant developments regarding the GDS recruitment and a special cover release for Annapurna Devi’s centenary.
India Post GDS 2026 Recruitment Updates
India Post has recently made headlines with the release of the UP GDS merit list on March 6, 2026, marking a significant step in the recruitment process for Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS). This initiative aims to fill a total of 28,636 posts across various postal circles in India.
The document verification process for candidates in Uttar Pradesh will close on March 23, 2026. Candidates are required to present original documents for verification to confirm their appointment. Missing documents may lead to delays or even void selections during this critical phase.
Engagement letters for the selected candidates are expected to be issued in phases following the completion of the document verification process. The pay band for these positions ranges from Rs 10,000 to Rs 29,380, providing a competitive compensation structure for the recruits.
Commemoration of Annapurna Devi
In addition to the recruitment updates, India Post has also honored the legacy of Annapurna Devi, a notable Surbahar artist and member of the Maihar Gharana, by releasing a special cover on March 9, 2026, at the Kolkata General Post Office. This release coincided with a music festival celebrating her birth centenary, which took place from March 6 to 8, 2026.
The special cover release has been described as an initiative that adds a new dimension to honoring cultural icons. Nityanand Haldipur remarked, “This honor by the India Post has added a new dimension to this initiative,” reflecting the significance of the event.
Overall, these developments highlight India Post’s commitment not only to enhancing its workforce through the GDS recruitment drive but also to celebrating India’s rich cultural heritage through commemorative initiatives.
