Airlines Face Disruptions Amid Ongoing Conflict

“We are working around the clock to organise additional relief flights where operationally possible and will share further updates as soon as they are confirmed,” stated a representative from Qatar Airways. This announcement comes as the airline has suspended scheduled flights due to the closure of Qatari airspace, a decision that has left many travelers stranded and uncertain about their travel plans.

The suspension of flights by Qatar Airways will remain in effect until aviation authorities confirm that the airspace over Qatar has been safely reopened. An operational update is expected to be issued on March 7 at 09:00 Doha time (06:00 UTC), providing some hope for those affected.

In the context of the ongoing US-Israel–Iran conflict, air traffic across the Middle East is facing widespread disruption. Israeli airlines, including El Al, Israir, and Arkia, are set to start outbound flights, albeit limited to a maximum of 70 passengers per plane. This measure is part of an effort to manage the return of stranded travelers while adhering to safety protocols.

Ben Gurion Airport has partially reopened for inbound flights, allowing for the repatriation of stranded Israelis. The Transportation Ministry has reserved 15 percent of all outbound seats for humanitarian, security, diplomatic, or tourist cases, ensuring that those in critical need can still access flights. Transportation Minister Miri Regev emphasized, “This will be conducted in accordance with the recommendations of defense officials and in accordance with security developments.”

Currently, there are approximately 120,000 Israelis stranded abroad, with 37,000 tourists initially stuck in Israel. As of now, 28,000 tourists remain in the country, and the government is working diligently to facilitate their return. On Friday, 6,040 Israelis are expected to return home, utilizing the 34 aircraft operated by El Al, Arkia, and Israir.

In addition to these developments, Flydubai has announced that it will resume flight operations to Ben Gurion Airport starting early next week, further indicating a gradual return to normalcy in air travel within the region.

Qatar Airways is also making efforts to organize additional relief flights and will notify passengers when operations can safely resume. “We sincerely apologise for the disruption caused and thank passengers for their patience and understanding,” the airline stated, acknowledging the challenges faced by travelers.

As the situation remains unpredictable in the Middle East, details regarding the reopening of Qatari airspace remain unconfirmed. Travelers are advised to stay updated and ensure their contact details are current to receive important information regarding their flights.
