The Ministry of External Affairs has recently issued a warning regarding misinformation circulating on social media, particularly concerning sensitive location data. This comes in the wake of a significant incident involving the alleged sharing of sensitive information by a group of individuals in India.

In a breaking development, six persons were arrested for allegedly sharing sensitive location data with a Pakistani mobile number. The arrests were made after it was discovered that the group had been filming and sharing details of various public locations, including railway stations and security establishments in Delhi-NCR and Mumbai.

According to police reports, the accused were allegedly compensated between Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 per task for providing this sensitive information. This activity had reportedly been ongoing for several months, raising serious concerns about national security.

As part of the investigation, an FIR was registered against the six individuals under Sections 152 and 61(2) of the BNS and sections 3 and 5 of the Official Secrets Act. Law enforcement officials recovered eight mobile phones during the arrests, which are expected to provide further evidence in the ongoing investigation.

The External Affairs Ministry’s Fact Check Unit has also stepped in to debunk claims that India shared the location of an Iranian ship with Israel, emphasizing the need for vigilance against false claims.

Officials have indicated that these arrests are part of a broader effort to combat the unauthorized sharing of sensitive information that could potentially compromise national security. Observers suggest that this incident may prompt a review of security protocols related to the handling of sensitive data.

As the investigation continues, authorities are likely to focus on the network of individuals involved and the extent of the data shared. The Ministry has reiterated the importance of public awareness regarding the risks associated with sharing sensitive location information.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the full scope of the group’s activities and any potential links to larger networks. However, the situation underscores the ongoing challenges faced by security agencies in safeguarding sensitive information in an increasingly interconnected world.
