The Technology Development Board (TDB) has signed an agreement with InfinityX Innovations for the development of automated battery swapping infrastructure, a significant step towards enhancing electric mobility operations in Telangana, India. This innovative project aims to create IoT-enabled battery swapping stations, which can facilitate a complete battery swap in under 40 seconds.

Shri Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary of the TDB, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “Accelerating the deployment of efficient and scalable charging alternatives is critical for the growth of India’s electric mobility ecosystem.” The introduction of such technology is expected to contribute to a standardized and interoperable battery swapping network across the country.

In addition to technological advancements, the Telangana government is also promoting electric vehicle adoption through financial incentives. State government employees can benefit from discounts of up to 20% on electric two- and four-wheelers, which could translate into savings of up to Rs 4 lakh per employee. This initiative is described as a first-of-its-kind in Telangana, potentially impacting around 5 lakh government employees.

As electric vehicles gain traction globally, the market dynamics are shifting. For instance, Germany and France reported battery electric vehicle (BEV) market shares of 22% and 27%, respectively, in early 2026. Meanwhile, Denmark experienced a remarkable increase in BEV market share, rising by 17 percentage points compared to the previous year.

The push for electric vehicles in Telangana is not just about reducing emissions; it also aims to make EV energy replenishment as quick and convenient as traditional refueling. The CEO and Founder of InfinityX Innovations noted, “Reducing battery transition time to under 40 seconds makes EV energy replenishment comparable to conventional refuelling.”

As these initiatives unfold, observers are keenly watching how they will influence the broader adoption of electric vehicles in India and whether they will set a precedent for other states to follow. The success of this battery swapping technology and the government’s incentives could play a crucial role in shaping the future of electric mobility in the region.

Launch of the TVS Orbiter V1 Electric Scooter

TVS Motor Company has officially launched the Orbiter V1 electric scooter on March 12, 2026, in Lucknow, India. This launch is significant as it aims to make electric mobility more accessible to a broader audience.

The Orbiter V1 is priced at ₹49,999 under the innovative Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, which allows customers to subscribe to battery usage rather than paying the full price upfront. Without the BaaS model, the scooter is available for ₹84,500.

Equipped with a 1.8 kWh battery, the Orbiter V1 offers a certified IDC range of 86 km per charge. This range is particularly appealing for urban commuters looking for efficient and sustainable transportation options.

Charging the scooter from 0 to 80% takes approximately two hours and 20 minutes, making it convenient for daily use. Additionally, the scooter features a generous 34-litre under-seat storage capacity, catering to the practical needs of riders.

In terms of technology, the Orbiter V1 includes a coloured LCD instrument cluster and a companion mobile app for enhanced connectivity. Safety features are also prioritized, with alerts for crashes, falls, theft, geo-fencing, and time-fencing.

Gaurav Gupta, President of India 2W Business at TVS Motor Company, emphasized that the launch represents an important step in enhancing electric mobility accessibility. He stated, “This initiative is crucial for the growth of the electric vehicle segment in India.”

Aniruddha Haldar, Senior Vice President heading the Commuter and EV Business, noted that customer feedback on the Orbiter V2 directly influenced the decision to introduce this more entry-level option, highlighting the company’s commitment to consumer needs.

The launch comes at a time when India’s electric two-wheeler market is experiencing rapid growth, reflecting a broader shift towards sustainable transportation solutions.

Monthly BaaS plans for the Orbiter V1 start at ₹862, and customers can benefit from a five-year extended warranty when opting for the BaaS model. This pricing strategy positions the Orbiter V1 as the most affordable option in the TVS electric vehicle portfolio.

As the electric scooter market continues to evolve, further developments regarding the Orbiter V1 and its reception in the market are anticipated. Details remain unconfirmed.
