This year, International Women’s Day will be celebrated on Sunday, March 8, and our university has organized a variety of activities for both students and staff to participate in throughout the month of March.

What does International Women’s Day signify?

Celebrating Women’s Contributions

Every year on 8 March, we celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) to recognize the social, economic, cultural, and political contributions made by women.

This also acts as a prompt to promote gender equality and tackle issues like gender parity and violence against women. Discover how you can engage with LJMU below.

Activities for students

Engagement Activities for Students

JMSU Women’s Body Panel: Tuesday, March 10th, 2026

In celebration of Women’s Month, taking place throughout March, JMSU will be organizing a Women’s Body Panel on Tuesday, March 10, from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM, located in the Student Life Building.

This event, open to all students and staff at LJMU, aims to foster a supportive environment for discussing the everyday challenges and struggles faced by women, encompassing mental, hormonal, physical, and political issues.

JMSU Women’s Body Panel

Facilitated by Etienne (VP of Community & Wellbeing) and Josh (VP of Activities), this panel seeks to enhance awareness, promote open dialogue, and emphasize the significance of representation within our university’s community.

Careers and Start-Up event for Student Futures: Wednesday, March 11

Be part of the Student Futures team on Wednesday, March 11, from 2 PM to 3:30 PM at the Student Life Building for an inspiring careers and start-up event featuring successful women from the Liverpool City Region, in celebration of Women’s Day 2026.

Promoting Gender Equality

Connect with experts excelling in various fields and entrepreneurs who have successfully established their own ventures.

Seize this chance to listen to genuine narratives and acquire knowledge that can assist you in crafting your own career journey, find inspiration, and engage with others.

Let us honor the accomplishments of women and inspire the upcoming leaders of tomorrow!

To secure your spot, please go to the Student Futures site.

Events for staff

‘Contribute to Prosper’ International Women’s Day 2026: Monday, March 9

Hosted by the Women Academics Network, Women in Professional Services Network, and the Diversity and Inclusion Team, this year’s staff event provides a platform for sharing insights and support while addressing stereotypes, confronting discrimination, examining biases, and honoring the achievements of women.

In the future, members of our University Leadership Team (including Professor Rachel McClean, Director of the Liverpool School of Art and Creative Industries, Karen Smith, Deputy Finance Director, Yvonne Turnbull, Director of Student Life and Wellbeing, and Lois Wiegand, Head of Legal Services and Deputy General Counsel) will participate in a panel discussion addressing the challenges and opportunities for women and how we can promote change at LJMU.

Become a member of a staff community

LJMU offers a variety of staff networks within the university that you can participate in, such as the Women Academics Network, the Women in Professional Services Network, and the Women Professors Network.
