“We demand that our son should get justice. The police have not conducted any inquiry or asked us about him,” said Memraj, the father of Tarun Kumar, a 26-year-old man who was killed during a clash in Uttam Nagar, Delhi, on March 4, 2026.

The violence reportedly began when an 11-year-old girl threw a water balloon, escalating tensions between two families from different communities during Holi celebrations. Witnesses describe a chaotic scene as Tarun was attacked by a group of 15-20 individuals armed with sticks and rods upon returning home.

Ramesh, Tarun’s uncle, recounted, “The moment he entered the street, some 8-10 people attacked him with sticks, rods and stones.” Despite the swift response from the community, Tarun succumbed to his injuries the following day, igniting widespread unrest.

Following Tarun’s death, protests erupted in Uttam Nagar, with demonstrators setting vehicles on fire in response to the violence. The situation prompted the Delhi Police to deploy additional security forces to maintain order in the area.

As of now, eight individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident; however, the police have not shown these individuals to Tarun’s family, leading to further frustration among the grieving relatives. Memraj expressed his discontent, stating, “We are poor people. The police say some arrests have been made, but we have not been shown anything.”

Political figures have also weighed in on the incident. BJP MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat remarked, “It is very shameful, when a kid hits someone by mistake and such an incident was carried out.” His comments reflect the broader concern regarding the escalation of violence in the community.

Background tensions had already been simmering in Uttam Nagar prior to the incident, as disputes between the Hindu and Muslim communities had been reported during the Holi festivities. The clash has raised alarms about the potential for further unrest in the area.
